Baby in a Boat – Postcard

Enchanteur has been in the habit of providing bags, filled with talismans to guide and protect travellers who are brave enough to set out on one of her adventures.

Like the tooth fairy she has quietly visited cabins on the SS Vulcania and has left a simple walnut shell in each

walnutshellold

In the case of an emergency it can become a life raft

But look deep within the shell and you will find

Carefully stored, minature items, that may be of use.

a tiny net

a compass

a hairpin

rope

a miniature anchor

a snorkel

a flare

one surprise item

Look very carefully and you will see that each shell is inscribed with a map of the heart.

Guard your walnut shell at all times. Keep it on your person and under no circumstances exchange this, no matter how generous the offer seems to be.

Take a moment to acknowledge receipt of E’s gift here in the comment box, sharing any thoughts or perceptions. In addition you might take a moment, within the privacy of your cabin, to create a visual or written entry in a diary, journal or letter.

  3. What a delightful gift, Enchanteur – and all those items contained in a simple walnut shell. English walnut or black walnut? I’m glad it is already shelled if it is a black walnut shell since they are so much more difficult to open. Thank you. by Thalia January 4, 2009 at 12:32 pm edit comment

  11. Such a precious gift…What could the surprise item be? “A ball, a fan, a pot for tea; an egg I found beside a tree. A unicorn, a pearly shell; a poem on the windowsill. A bug, a box, a book, a wand; a ship that can float on a pond…” (Fairy Dreams.) I will keep it close to my heart, and guard it with my special mantle of invisibility! by Maryna January 5, 2009 at 2:03 am edit comment

  18. Do I dare look at the map of the heart? Is it my heart with all of its past inscriptions or one that is untainted? But then, I don’t even know if I’m welcome on board. Is there protocol to gain entry onto this enchanted cruise ship? by Colleen Murphy January 6, 2009 at 1:33 am edit comment
  19. Darling E, this is quite the remarkable gift. Of course one was expecting to find Lindt on one’s pillow, but no, this walnut shell exceeds one’s expectations by far.My most sincere thanks, old girl. I shall tuck it away amongst the smelling salts. One never knows when such a gift will come in handy.

    Toodles!

  23. Medicine bags are the way to go, Gwen. I have one, and the walnut shell if safely tucked inside. by gailkav January 8, 2009 at 10:17 pm edit comment
  24. I’ve a wee bag woven of fairy silk from a trip taken long ago, to a secret island where those I loved lived on in the sacred tree. I’ll keep the precious treasure safe but wonder at the moment if it holds the key to that other box that was left for me, or perhaps Angus find it in one of the cabins where he’s checking the reports. 26. Dear E: I will place my walnut in my medicine bag, next to the acorn from my grandmother’s oak tree, to remind me of the strength of our ancestors.

  1. Dear E,

Thanks so much for the gift in my cabin (: i just knew there had to be a compass no wonder i was a bit disoriented when i first passed the angels and the mirrors.

Speck just loves the tiny net, my tiny gecko friend has designs on that one.

I think perhaps the walnut can fit inside my prophecy shell and might even help in the little sculptural messages it sends me.

I am sure I will work out what all the others mean as time goes by.

Thankyou E. I am feeling much better now.

    Unity
I am amazed by the map of the heart, there seems to be a map of my own heart, and one of a larger universal heart into which I fit my heart beats. I cried when I saw it, but Speck started to pick up the snorkel and pretend to be swimming and my tears soon stopped.

My surprise item was a tiny guitar and a little book of songs for unity which went with it. I was really happy when I saw that one.

  2. [...] Enchanteurs’ gift:  A magical walnut shell. [...]

  3. Well, I’ve just found the strangest thing under my bunk. It’s a walnut shell. It’s a good job I had my glasses on and saw all the tiny things inside it or it might have ended up in the bin. I’m informed that E gives one of these magigal shells to all the travellers, so thank you E :)

  4. My goodness, E. In all the excitement, I never acknowledged your most blessed gift of the walnut shell. I don’t know what I would do without it as I oft get carried away in the wonder of the moment and don’t pay attention. I am still on the Island of the Temple People waiting for Ms. Gigi to find me. I see that the ship has left without us but I am not worried as the walnut shell will teleport us back to our cabin. It is a glorius night! Here comes Ms. Gigi! See you on the ship!
